Ener-G Low-Protein Imitation Mozzarella is made especially for people with phenylketonuria (pku) and other metabolic disorders who need a low protein diet.
Low protein imitation cheeses are non-melting. They will soften with considerable heating, but due to the ingredients (mainly starch and oil) it is not possible for the cheese to melt like normal high protein cheese. It is the protein component of normal cheese that allows it to melt. For pizza it is better to use the cheese shredded. To store frozen it is advised to first shred the cheese. If you add shredded cheese to a liquid for a sauce, you might have better "melting."

Ingredients: Water, corn starch*, partially hydrogenated soybean oil*, whey, salt, casein and/or caseinate, sodium phosphate, lactic acid, sorbic acid, carrageenan gum, artificial flavour and colour.
*Produced from genetically modified maize and soya.

IMPORTANT: The amount of Phenylalanine in the imitation cheese varies per batch. The values below are only a guide based on one particular batch. Consumers should check the serving size per 50mg Phenylalanine Exchange given on each individual pack before use.
In the following example: 50mg phenylalanine = 1 exchange = 29g serving
